Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in North Lincolnshire and Online
Evidence-based therapy to help you find your path…
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) provides a practical, evidence-based means of understanding what’s keeping you stuck, develop new ways of coping and making meaningful changes.
I offer face-to-face CBT in Scunthorpe, making therapy accessible to clients across the surrounding area. I also offer online therapy for clients across North Lincolnshire and beyond.
Therapy that’s down-to-earth and focused on what works…
Hi, I’m Russ. I’m an accredited CBT therapist based in North Lincolnshire, with nearly two decades of experience in mental health, including extensive time as a mental health nurse.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of common mental health challenges, including anxiety, low mood, stress, self-esteem, and trauma.
I believe therapy works best when it’s collaborative, practical, and grounded in your individual circumstances. My role is to help you understand what is maintaining the difficulties you face, while providing a safe, supportive space to explore new ways of relating to yourself, others, and the world.
Does any of this feel familiar?
You might be managing day-to-day life reasonably well on the outside, while privately finding things much harder than you’d like.
🧠 An Overactive Mind
Your mind rarely seems to switch off. You find yourself constantly anticipating worst-case scenarios, planning for every eventuality, and working overtime to manage uncertainty.
🔋 Low Energy & Withdrawal
You’ve gradually withdrawn from life. Motivation, confidence, and energy feel drained—making everyday tasks take far more effort than they should.
💭 Harsh Self-Criticism
You’re harder on yourself than you’d ever be on anyone else. You second-guess your decisions, compare yourself to others, or live with a constant fear of getting things wrong.
⚓ Carrying the Past
Difficult memories replay in your mind, keeping you constantly on edge. You avoid reminders of what happened and feel as though something fundamental within you has shifted.
What therapy with me looks like
Therapy isn’t about sitting in a room being told what to do, nor is it simply a forum to talk through your difficulties.
Instead, we work together to build a shared understanding of what you’re experiencing. We’ll map out the patterns that might be keeping you stuck and discover practical, meaningful ways to make a change. What we focus on is always guided by you, your circumstances, and your individual goals for therapy.
-
We’ll start by making sense of what’s been happening and what’s brought you to therapy.
We’ll look at the things you’re struggling with now as well as the experiences and circumstances that have shaped them.
-
Together, we’ll explore each part of your experience and understand the patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that can keep you stuck.
Once we have identified these cycles we can build a roadmap for change.
-
Depending on what you are working towards, this might involve experimenting with different ways of responding to thoughts and feelings, gradually approaching the things you have been avoiding, adapting ‘unhelpful’ behaviours or developing new, more adaptive ways of coping.
-
Therapy isn’t just about what happens during our sessions. We’ll think about how the things you have learned can be applied in everyday life.
Together, we can create tasks to complete between sessions to help to move towards your goals.
Our aims will be to…
"Russell really got the the root of my unique problems and found innovative ways to help me combat them. He has truly helped me change my outlook on life and I will be forever grateful for that."
"Both supportive and challenging, exactly when needed. At times the sessions have been difficult but I have understood the process and kept going."
"The best thing I have done. It has given me the tools to help myself in the future."

I also offer…
Outdoor Therapy
Sometimes being outside can change the way we think, talk and experience therapy. My outdoor sessions draw on my experience and training. I seek to incorporate the natural environment into the therapeutic process.
Rather than following one particular therapeutic model, I draw on the approaches and experience that are most useful for the person I’m working with. Walking, being in nature and having space away from the traditional therapy room can offer a different way of exploring what’s going on and finding a way forward.
Workplace Wellbeing
I offer workplace wellbeing support for organisations looking to take a thoughtful and practical approach to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of their staff.
This can include talks, workshops, wellbeing sessions and bespoke support around stress, mental health, resilience and healthier ways of working. Where appropriate, I can also incorporate nature and outdoor activities into workplace wellbeing programmes — whether that’s something you specifically want to explore or simply feels like a good fit for your team.
The approach is flexible and can be tailored to the needs of your organisation, drawing on my clinical experience and wider understanding of mental health, wellbeing and the pressures of modern working life.
